BREASTFEEDING mums are being welcomed to join a new support group.
The 12th baby bistro has opened its doors in Huddersfield, run by volunteers.
The group – which meets every Friday at 10.30am to noon – is being hosted at the Mothercare store at Great Northern Retail Park, off Leeds Road.
It offers mums the chance to meet in a relaxed environment and get one-to-one advice from trained breastfeeding peer supporters.
The volunteers are all passionate about supporting women because they have breastfed their own babies.
Jayne Heley, breastfeeding lead at Locala – which provides local health services in Kirklees – said: “Research indicates that up to one third of breastfeeding mothers experience problems in the first few weeks and a lack of help and support in those early weeks is often the reason they stop.
“Whilst breastfeeding is not for everyone, it is cheap, convenient and protects babies from a wide range of illnesses.
“This is why we try and encourage women in Kirklees to access support, advice and guidance though one or more of our networks where there are people to help them and where there is no pressure and no judgements made.”
