BROTHERS battered a father in his front garden in front of his wife and daughter, a court heard yesterday.
Brian Monkhouse, of Teddington Avenue, Dalton, was punched, hit in the face with a brick, and struck in the back with a stepladder Bradford Crown Court was told.
Danny Boothroyd Sr, 42, of Long Lane, Dalton, and his sons Danny Boothroyd Jr, 20, of Cow Heys, Dalton, and Marc Boothroyd, 18, of Equilibrium, Lindley, all deny causing grievous bodily harm. Danny Boothroyd Jr denies having an offensive weapon.
In a taped police interview shown in court Mr Monkhouse’s 17-year-old daughter Lucy said she had seen Danny Boothroyd Jr punch her dad before Marc Boothroyd struck him in the cheek with a half brick.
The incident on May 13 last year is alleged to have stemmed from an altercation between Mr Monkhouse’s son and Danny Boothroyd Sr the night before.
Miss Monkhouse added during the attack Danny Boothroyd Sr had stood in her dad’s face shouting: ‘You’re f***ed now.’
Under cross-examination, the A-level student refuted suggestions that her dad had struck the first blow.
Marc Boothroyd’s counsel Matthew Harding asked: “Brian Monkhouse hit Danny Boothroyd Jr, Marc Boothroyd hit Mr Monkhouse and pulled Danny Jr away and Mr Monkhouse offered them into the back garden for a fight. That’s the reality isn’t it? Your dad was the aggressor?
Miss Monkhouse: “No. He was the defender...
“They were saying: ‘I’m going to stab you. I’m going to stab your son. I’m going to stab the rest of your family.’”
The court also heard from Mr Monkhouse’s wife Suzanne.
Mrs Monkhouse told the court she had seen Danny Boothroyd Jr hit her husband across the back with a stepladder set. She added she had seen Marc Boothroyd “poleaxe” her husband to the floor.
The case continues.
