PLANS for a Brighouse bypass remain at the ‘talks’ stage.

Last year the Examiner reported how Calderdale councillors were working with Metro about the bypass proposal as part of wider regeneration work.

Clr Barry Collins, responding to a question posed at the last cabinet meeting, said: “The council has had preliminary discussions with Metro and the other West Yorkshire districts to consider in principle, three potential strategic highway proposals in Calderdale as part of the West Yorkshire Transport Fund process to help stimulate economic growth in the region.

“The suggestion to develop a route to bypass Brighouse district centre is still at the initial stage and there is no further information or detailed technical analysis.”

He said that technical information such as the route, type of highway and cost will not be considered in detail until confirmation of approval in principle by Metro.

Plans for a bypass in the town were announced at the same time as Calderdale said talks were ongoing about an extra M62 junction at Rastrick.
