TWO revellers jumped into a canal after a night out drinking.

And their actions prompted a large – and costly – search and rescue operation.

The two men had been drinking at a pub in Brighouse town centre before they jumped into the Calder and Hebble Navigation, off Briggate, at around 12am on Saturday.

Five fire crews from Brighouse, Elland and Cleckheaton attended to search for the pair.

But they were not needed after a man, thought to be in his late 40s, went into the canal and pulled the two young men out.

An ambulance attended but none of the men was thought to have been hurt.
