A Brighouse folk singer is to sing the praises of fallen servicemen and women thanks to the launch of a charity single.

Guitar slinging musician, Roger Davies, has released his new song, ‘Wear Your Poppy with Pride’, to raise money for the national appeal after getting behind the campaign last year.

The song was first created last November with children from Shelley First School, who sang it at a special school service of remembrance event.

Roger, said: “I was asked by the head teacher to write a song for the children to sing at the St Emmanuel Church but since then it has been so well received by audiences at my concerts and whenever I’ve played it live on the radio I thought the song would be able to make a positive contribution if it was released as a fundraising single for the Poppy Appeal.

“I contacted my local Poppy Appeal office and they embraced the idea.

“I’m very pleased and proud that all proceeds from sales of the CD will be donated to it.”

He will launch the single at a special homecoming headline show at Brighouse Civic Hall on August 30, which will also feature Fake Thackray.

It is the latest release for the singer, who also recorded a song called The Grand Depart in the run up to the Tour de France.

Tickets to the show, where doors open at 7pm, cost £10 and £8 for under 16s and are available on 01484 722462 or online at www.brighousecanalfestival.co.uk

The single will be available from all gigs and at selected Poppy Appeal fundraising stalls in town centres around West Yorkshire and the Sounds Good Records Online Store: www.evinsol.co.uk/cdsales from August 30 2014.
