A POPULAR hotel and restaurant wants permission to leave a marquee up for longer.

Casa Hotel and Restaurant in Brighouse wants to keep the marquee in its grounds for another six months.

The hotel says revenue from it is crucial for the ability to build a new extension and create further jobs.

Roger Lee, for the company, wrote to the Calderdale Council’s planners: “The applicant’s argument has always remained consistent in that the revenue obtained from operating the temporary marquee is critical to the ability to finance and complete the approved conference and functions centre.

“Construction works were due to begin at the start of September, but the financial issues surrounding the licence have meant that this has to be put on hold until the beginning of next year.”

The marquee saga has been ongoing since 2007.

The council said the 330 sq m tent is not a temporary structure and ruins the idyllic scenery.
