ARMED raiders have again attacked a Brighouse jewellery shop – exactly a week after a sledgehammer robbery.

Police are working on a theory that the two raids are linked.

The latest robbery happened yesterday at around 9.05am at Neimantas Jewellers in Commercial Street, Brighouse.

Two armed masked men entered the store and confronted the owner Steve Neimantas and a staff member.

They left the scene a short time later with a quantity of jewellery and made off in a waiting black Vauxhall Corsa, driven by a third man.

The getaway car was found abandoned in Harley Street later in the day – about half a mile from the scene of the raid

Police were on the scene within minutes and the shop was cordoned off to shoppers.

No-one was hurt in the incident and no damage was caused to the property.

Police dogs were brought in to search the area and the West Yorkshire Police helicopter was used to scour roads out of Brighouse, in a bid to find the getaway car.

Detectives have not revealed what weapons were used by the robbers.

The incident came exactly a week since masked robbers smashed the windows at the family-run store with sledgehammers.

A quantity of jewellery was taken from the shop’s display window in that incident.

Calderdale officer Det Sgt Philip Jagger said: “There are enough similarities in both incidents to link them but we are also keeping an open mind.”

He added: “We are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the black two-door Corsa prior to the offence occurring or after it was abandoned in Harley Street area of Brighouse at around 3pm.”

He said the car had been reported stolen.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police received a call to a premises at 100 Commercial Street Brighouse at 9.05 yesterday.

“No-one was injured in the incident. The shop, which has been in the family for more than 50 years, had previously been robbed in October, 2010, and again three years earlier.
