A BRIGHOUSE woman is taking on the Great North Run to raise money for charity.

Nurse Adele Lee will pound 13-miles through the streets of Tyneside next month for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Adele, 39, a novice runner, said she had been training hard for the half-marathon slog.

She said: “My friends lost a child to meningitis so I thought I would do something. I’ve always wanted to do it but I’ve never plucked up the courage.

“I’ve managed to get some neighbours to do it too so there’ll be four of us together.

“The only way to stop other parents suffering like my friends did is to support research into prevention and treatment of the disease.”

Adele is also achieving a personal goal by taking part in the run as she recently overcame Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Adele said she was already well on the road to raising her target of £750 and was now hoping for a bit more.
