A MAN aged 69 was taken to hospital after fire completely destroyed a bedroom at his Brighouse home.

Firefighters raced to Bracken Road, Brighouse, at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

They found the blaze had spread across all the front first-floor bedroom.

The owner was treated by firefighters at the scene with oxygen until paramedics arrived. He was then taken to hospital.

It is believed the home owner and his son-in-law had been sitting downstairs at the time the fire broke out and were alerted by smoke alarms.

Brighouse Firefighter Daniel Jennings told the Examiner: “The first-floor bedroom was fully involved with fire. There were two occupants in the house.

“It is another incident where smoke alarms have saved a life.”
