THE future of Brighouse Police Station should be decided this week.

A pilot scheme which saw the police station reopen to the public was extended until the end of the financial year.

But funding to secure its long-term future was not guaranteed.

Now police chiefs are set to meet to debate the Bradford Road police station’s future this week.

Chief Supt Alan Ford has previously said he would fight to find the money, but that it could not be at the expense of taking an officer off the beat.

The station reopened last July as part of a six month trial which was extended due to its success. It had been closed two years previously as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

The station’s help desk remains open for people to report crime or speak to the police from 1pm until 4pm Monday to Friday.
