RESIDENTS were evacuated after a gas leak.
Firefighters were called to a house on the corner of Mill Lane and Grove Street in Brighouse following an accident yesterday.
Brighouse Fire Station watch manager Andy Medlock said: “Some people were at work on this house when they drilled through what they thought was a dead pipe. Suddenly they smelled gas and rang for help. We cordoned off the street and evacuated nearby buildings. Quite a few people were upset that they couldn’t get down the road because it’s quite busy.
“The gas board arrived and sealed the pipe with putty.”
