A town is gearing up for a unique festival that combines its waterways with live music and a drink or two.

Brighouse is staging a Canal, Beer and Music festival this weekend with the canal side the focus for free boat trips, canoeing lessons, canal crafts and the sound of live music on three stages.

The event, on Saturday and Sunday, is organised by the Brighouse Business Initiative which is a group of town centre traders.

There will also be a summer food and craft market with more than 80 stalls throughout the town centre.

BBI chair Lesley Adams said: “Come rain or shine Brighouse will entertain you this weekend with music and song fun and laughter for all the family.”

The Canal and Rivers Trust will be demonstrating the benefits of boating with trips along the canal.

There will also be a display of static steam engines, the Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club will be exhibiting 20-30 classic cars on both days and the Halifax & Brighouse Model Engineers will be running their steam train down West Park Street.

The live music will create a great party atmosphere for the event, which runs until 10pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.

Brighouse singer songwriter Roger Davies will be putting on a special concert at the town’s Civic Hall on Friday to kick-start the festival – see www.brighousecanalfestival.co.uk for more details.
