TEENAGE comic Jack Carroll kept his sense of humour intact despite the disappointment of missing out in the final of ITV show Britain’s Got Talent.

Brighouse High School student Jack, 14, came runner-up in this year’s competition , decided on Saturday by a public phone vote.

Jack, from Hipperholme, has celebral palsy, a condition which results in impaired muscle co-ordination.

When Jack was announced as “runner-up” he joked: “Bit insensitive that!”

Choking back the emotion, Jack said: “I have tried my best. Cheers to everyone who voted.”

When the Hungarian dance troupe Attraction were announced as the winners after Saturday night’s public vote, the judging panel – Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon – were clearly shocked that Jack had missed out.

Earlier all four had given him a standing ovation and Walliams told him: “You are one of my favourite comedians and I really hope whatever happens you go on to become a comedy superstar.”

There was controversy during the show when, during a performance of singers Richard and Adam, a woman, later identified as Natalie Holt, a former BGT reject – pelted Cowell with eggs.

When Jack’s turn came to perform he incorporated the drama in his routine.

He said: “For my first act I was going to run on and throw some eggs. Well, that’s been ruined now!”

Cowell described Jack as a “very naughty boy” for his egg jibe and added: “I really like you”.

He went on: “You are 14 going on 35. With my heart I have to hope you win this competition.”

When quizzed by presenters Ant and Dec after his performance Jack grinned: “I want to win for my family and friends – and for my building society trust fund.”

Attraction won the £250,000 prize and a place on stage at the Royal Variety Performance.

They had 27% of the votes with Jack on 20.1% and Richard and Adam 15.4%.
