HUNDREDS of people gathered in Milnsbridge to celebrate the official opening of a redevelopment scheme.
The newly improved canalside Milnsbridge Wharf, off Tanyard Road, was opened by Kirklees Deputy Mayor Clr Jean Calvert.
The afternoon event also featured performances from Marsden Junior Band and pupils from Crow Lane School.
The wharf improvements include a new paved outdoor events space. The rest of the site has been redesigned, grassed and landscaped.
The Milnsbridge Baaaa-rge sculpture, which was designed by Mike Disley, now takes pride of place next to the events space.
The work was a result of a partnership between Kirklees Council, Huddersfield Pride, British Waterways and the Milnsbridge Enhancement Group.
The improvement of the area marks the completion of £120,000 programme of works in Milnsbridge.
Other works include shopfront improvements in Market Street, tree planting and hanging baskets for the village centre.
Clr Calvert said: "It was a great event. The weather was wonderful, which really brought people out. It was nice to see so many people interested in their own community.
"This work signals the end of the works programme and it has made a real difference to the area.
"With projects like this - and the hard work of the community - the area is on the up again.
"It has a good feeling about it."
