The brother of missing Moors murder victim Keith Bennett has met with police in a bid to persuade them to re-open the case.

Alan Bennett, brother of Keith, also wants officers to search a specific area on Saddleworth Moor above Huddersfield where he believes Ian Brady and Myra Hindley buried the body.

Mr Bennett, 58, and his lawyer John Ainley have spoken to Greater Manchester Police and asked permission to access historic files which might give them further clues about Keith’s disappearance.

Mr Ainley said: “We have made positive progress as the main reason for the meet was to ask them to resume a search of an area of the moor but, if not, to gain access to their files.”

Mr Bennett says he has fresh evidence based on 10 years of research. He has had help from experts who helped find the body of a missing backpacker in the Malaysian jungle.

Mr Ainley said the police files could reveal new clues “that might not have seemed significant in the past.”

He added: “To assist the police, a geological report is now to be prepared and will add substance to Alan’s belief there is compelling evidence to identify a relatively small area where Keith may be buried.”

Keith was 12 when he disappeared in 1964 and his remains have never been found.

Brady and Hindley were jailed for life in 1966 for killing John Kilbride, 12, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, and Edward Evans, 17.

In 1987 they admitted killing Keith and 16-year-old Pauline Reade as well.

They were taken to Saddleworth Moor, off the A635 Greenfield Road, but could only locate Pauline’s remains.
