A HUDDERSFIELD Brownie leader has retired after more than 40 years work in Guiding.

Dorothy Bottom was Brown Owl of the 3rd Huddersfield Brownies at Lindley for many years.

She attended a surprise retirement party at Lindley Infants School after her final meeting, when she was thanked for all her work.

Miss Bottom was also a District Commissioner and ran a Young Leadership Scheme, helping older members of the Guiding movement gain their warrants to become leaders.

Miss Bottom, who has always lived at Lindley, was herself a member of the 3rd Huddersfield pack.

She is giving up her Brownie work because she has reached 65, the compulsory retirement age for leaders.

Gemma Ellis, a young leader for the 3rd Huddersfield pack, said: "She has done an enormous amount. It was a way of saying thank you. She has done so much that I would struggle to remember all of it."
