LAST month was the second coldest October since 1990.

Huddersfield University’s weather station in the School of Applied Sciences found the monthly mean temperature was 9.2°C – nearly 1.8°C lower than the average figure for October of 10.97°C.

The only coldest October was in 1992, when the records show the average temperature was 8.07°C.

The warmest day was Monday, October 1, with an average t of 12.3°C. The highest temperature of 16.1°C was recorded on Wednesday, October 17.

The coldest day was Friday, October 26 with an average of 3.9°C.

A total of 77mm of rainfall fell, almost equal to the average figure for October of 77.6mm.

The wettest day was Thursday, October 11, with 26.8mm of rainfall – which accounted for 34.8% of the month’s total.

Only four days of the month escaped rainfall compared to the average of 11 days for October.

The mean wind speed for the month was 8.78km/hr and the highest mean wind speed was 18.72km/hr recorded on Tuesday, October 2.

The highest gust of wind for whole month was 80.64km/hr.
