TELECOM giant BT has announced that Mirfield is among four Yorkshire towns to benefit from the next roll-out of super-fast fibre broadband.
About 26,000 businesses and households will be able to get access as part of the £2.5bn investment.
The towns to benefit are Mirfield, Filey, Royston and Stocksbridge.
BT estimates that many premises in the four towns will be able to access fibre-based broadband.
However, a minority will not initially be able to receive super-fast services due to technical and economic reasons.
John Anderson, BT’s regional director for Yorkshire, said:
“Fibre broadband has the power to revolutionise the way we use the internet. It has huge implications for the way we live, learn and do business, with massive opportunities for entertainment, education and entrepreneurs.”
