A BUILDER at the centre of a row over a power blackout said today: It's not my fault.

Mark Cunningham spoke after villagers protested over plans to cut their electricity for a time while he is building his own home at Scammonden.

Neighbours were furious the blackout was to take place on a Sunday rather than during the week.

They mounted a blockade in the form of a barbecue to block workers from electricity distribution company YEDL.

Mr Cunningham said today: "The day was certainly not of my choosing.

"I've been trying to get them to move the overhead power cable for the last 12 months but just had to wait and wait.

"In the end I had to accept the date they gave me."

Power in the Camp Hill area will now be cut off on Thursday.

Neighbours said it was better to do the job on a weekday, when they were out at work.
