THIEVES broke into a village house in a vain bid to steal the victim's cars.

The intruders damaged a door and window to get into the house on Thirstin Road, Honley, between 5.15pm and 7.20pm last night.

Det Con Russell Conlon, of Kirklees Police, said: "We feel sure they were searching for keys to the victim's cars, which were on the driveway.

"They left empty- handed when they couldn't find them."

The burglars were driving a white Ford Escort hatchback.

One of the intruders is a mixed race Asian aged 17 or 18.

He is 5ft 6in tall and skinny, with very dark short hair and dark sideburns.

Anyone who knows who he is or has any information should phone Huddersfield police helpdesk on 01484 436659 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
