They are a group dedicated to doing good deeds ... but a bad deed has now been done to them.

For a thief has stolen the president’s chain of office for Holmfirth and Meltham Lions Club.

Group member Louise Makin said: “The chain is 35 years old and is irreplacable. It has the names of all of our past and current presidents on it.

“We are devastated as it holds dear sentiments. Each tab is engraved and the bottom of the chain has a Lions International Badge so it is very distinct.

“We are worried the thieves may have dumped it so we would appeal for people to keep a lookout for us.”

The group is committed to helping the community and raises thousands of pounds every year for local charities and good causes.

Their main fundraising is at Christmas when they take Santa and his sleigh on a tour of the Holme Valley collecting money as they go.

This year they raised £5,143 and some of that total was quickly donated to the Calderdale flood relief fund.

The Lions always need new members.
