THIEVES tried to set fire to a pub after burgling it.
The intruders broke into the Wellington on Newsome Road in Newsome between 11.30 last night and 1am today.
They stole spirits and broke into vending machines to steal cash.
Det Con Russ Conlon said: "Fortunately the fire did not take hold and was confined to a seat.
"We would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious.
"They may have spotted the burglars hanging around or making their getaway."
