A BUS company has made a U-turn over services to a Colne Valley hamlet.

First Bus has decided to re-start the hourly service to Wilberlee, near Slaithwaite.

People living in Wilberlee lost their daytime service when a new timetable came into force at the start of this month.

Instead of a bus every hour they were left with only a "school run" bus in the morning and one in the afternoon. Previously, an hourly service operated in the evening.

First Bus has now said that an all-day, hourly service will be resumed next Tuesday.

The company has also said that from March 29 the buses will be replaced by a taxi-bus service linking rural areas, including Wilberlee and Slaithwaite.

Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford - who led residents' protest at the loss of the service - has welcomed First Bus's U-turn.

She said she was delighted that Wilberlee was to have its hourly service restored.

"Some elderly people have been cut off because they relied on the buses to get to Slaithwaite and Huddersfield to collect their pensions and to shop," she said. "I'm grateful to First for accepting that the cuts caused hardship and for plugging the gap."
