A BUS lane is to be created on a main road heading into Huddersfield.

Work is due to begin next Monday on the project at Ainley Top.

The 400-yard bus lane will be on the three-lane section of the southbound carriageway of the Ainleys.

It will finish at the Huddersfield-bound bus stop at Ainley Top where the three lanes merge back into two.

Cyclists and taxis will also be able to use the lane.

Calderdale Council says it is introducing the bus lane because of peak period traffic congestion on the approach to Ainley Top roundabout.

Resulting queues cause delays to buses on the link between Halifax, Elland and Huddersfield.

The start of the work is being timed for the school holidays when traffic levels are lower.

It is hoped that the scheme will be complete in two to three weeks' time.
