BUS services are under threat in parts of North Kirklees and Brighouse.
Bus operator Metro is to review the subsidised services it provides around Mirfield, Dewsbury, Brighouse and the Spen Valley.
It is expected many of those services will be cut.
Metro will be holding consultation sessions throughout May and June for local people who may be affected.
Comments from passengers will help finalise the new network. Contracts are expected to be awarded later in the year, with the new network in place in early 2013.
The review aims to ensure Metro continues to obtain the best value for council tax-payers’ money for publicly-funded bus services.
Most bus services in West Yorkshire are operated commercially and will not be affected by Metro’s review.
A ‘core network’ of routes in each area of West Yorkshire has been identified, which will be provided by operators without financial support from Metro.
Other services may see a reduced timetable.
The review will start in July and Metro chairman Clr James Lewis said: “This Government has reduced the funding received by West Yorkshire’s councils by hundreds of millions of pounds which, in turn, means Metro has less to spend on bus services.
“We are taking the advice of the House of Commons Select Committee on board and will be consulting local people extensively to ensure we reduce the impact of these changes as far as we can.”
The list of services affected by the review, together with an on-line questionnaire, can be found on Metro’s web site at www.wymetro.com/busreview.
Metro staff will be on-hand at the following consultation events:
Saturday May 19 10am–3pm at Dewsbury Bus Station;
