A RETAIL complex helping to revive the fortunes of Batley has been named Kirklees Business of the Month.

Redbrick Mill has forged a formidable reputation across the north for its wide range of shops and attractions - as well as earning a name for itself as an up-and-coming arts venue.

Stephen Battye, who founded Redbrick Mill, and his wife Sara, were presented with a framed certificate by Malcolm Tracey, a partner at Huddersfield law firm Eaton Smith, which sponsors the award with Examiner sister publication Kirklees Business News.

The presentation was made at the law firm's High Street offices and attended by Jason Trigg, of HSBC in Huddersfield, and Paul Field, innovation manager for Huddersfield University, who helped judge the award.

Among more than 30 tenants, Redbrick Mill boasts major names in design, such as Habitat, as well as a several independent retailers.

The four-storey complex also includes the Cafe Casbah coffee shop and delicatessen. It also provides space for housebuilder CALA Homes, which has a marketing suite at Redbrick Mill handling enquiries from potential buyers for its nearby 1767 flats development.
