HUDDERSFIELD businesswoman Jo Haigh has turned her hand to a new skill - writing a book.

And her no-nonsense guide to helping firms avoid pitfalls is proving so successful she has been asked to pen a second work.

Jo, who is married with two daughters and lives at Denby Dale, spent a year researching and writing The Business Rules.

The book, published by Piatkus, explains 100 common pitfalls awaiting the unwary entrepreneur - from the rules of corporate governance to issues involving red tape, raising money and selling property.

Said Jo: "The book deals with issues I have handled all my working life. It's a book you can dip into and use almost as a personal adviser.

"I want people to turn to it whenever they need some advice on a particular problem."

Jo, who trained as a lawyer before running her own business consultancy at Shelley for 10 years, said: "I loved writing the book. I wrote most of it while in the hairdresser's and on the train, because I do a lot of travelling."

The book is on sale at Waterstone's and WH Smith in Huddersfield.

The publisher has now commissioned Jo to write another book - this time a guide on buying and selling businesses.

Jo said: "I have always wanted to write a book. I have written plenty of business articles for magazines and newspapers.

"When I was asked to write a book it did seem a bit daunting because I have a day job to do as well.

"But I loved doing it and it has been well-received - which always makes you feel nice and warm."

Jo has more than 25 years business experience. She teaches hundreds of people on the Institute of Directors' director diploma course in London and works with chief executives across the country through the Academy of Chief Executives.

Jo works for corporate and personal tax specialist gvt in Sheffield, where she set up and now heads its corporate finance department.
