A BUSINESSMAN under fire in the Commons says he has nothing to hide over his network of companies.

Vincent Tchenguiz hit back after Huddersfield Labour MP Barry Sheerman demanded a debate on his activities.

The Iranian-born tycoon's interests include Estates and Management, which collects ground rents on thousands of homes in Huddersfield and across the north.

Mr Sheerman accused the firm of exploiting elderly and vulnerable people.

He described it as part of a spaghetti of companies registered in the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas and elsewhere.

Mr Tchenguiz hit back: "Mr Sheerman is welcome to have any inquiry he wants.

"The structure of this company is well known to banks and local authorities."

The Examiner reported earlier this year how Estates and Management sent out penalty notices with late payment charges added on, without previous written reminders.

Mr Tchenguiz admitted there had been a problem after a mailing company failed to send post on time to leaseholders.

However, this had now been resolved, he said.

"We follow the correct procedures and do what we have to do professionally," he said.

Mr Sheerman is now waiting to hear if he will get a hearing for his request for a Parliamentary debate on the Tchenguiz family's business practices.

Mr Tchenguiz said he would be happy to sit down with the MP and have a discussion with him.

"Anyone is welcome to inquire to death about our companies.

"I will show them the way. Everyone knows we have a lot of companies," he said.
