Two Huddersfield actresses are looking forward to a busy and successful 2014.

Both Lena Headey and Jodie Whittaker have big projects lined up in the early part of the new year.

Lena, 40, is to reprise two of her most famous roles.

She will star as Queen Gorgo in the blockbuster film 300: Rise Of An Empire.

The new film will take place before, during and after the events of the original film, as the battle for Greece shifts away from the dusty plains and onto the high seas.

Directed by Noam Murro and co-starring Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green and Rodrigo Santoro, 300: Rise Of An Empire will open in the UK on March 7.

Lena will also be a star of the fourth season of the epic fantasy television series Game of Thrones, returning as Cersei Lannister.

It is scheduled to premiere in early 2014 on HBO.

It will be based roughly on the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R R Martin, of which the series is an adaptation.

Filming for the season began last July in Northern Ireland and also saw the cast return to Iceland and Dubrovnik for filming.

Filming for the season lasted 136 days and was completed in November.

Meanwhile Jodie, of Skelmanthorpe, is set to star in a big new TV series on both sides of the Atlantic.

The 31-year-old actress is one of the stars of The Assets, an upcoming American drama television series that will air on ABC starting on Thursday, January 2.

The eight-part series is based on the book Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed by retired CIA officers Sandra Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille, and is produced by Morgan Hertzan, Rudy Bednar and Andrew Chapman.

Whittaker plays Grimes throughout the series.

She is also to take a leading role in the new firefighting drama series The Smoke, which also features Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica).

Written by Lucy Kirkwood (Skins), the eight-part series begins later this year on Sky1 and also stars Rhashan Stone (Strike Back) and Gerard Kearns (Shameless).

The Smoke follows the high-adrenaline adventures of White Watch, a team of London firefighters.

It follows the struggles of a firefighter injured on the job. Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) stars, with Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) as his girlfriend.

Jodie Whittaker is 31 and also a former student of Shelley High School
