HOLMFIRTH shop Addy's Butchers has lost out on victory in a competition to find England's best butcher's shop.

Addy's, based at Hade Edge, was one of 14 shops that reached the finals of the competition, run by butcher's magazine the Meat Trades Journal.

The shops had been visited by judges from the Women's Food and Farming Union, which was one of the awards' sponsors.

Addy's is run by shop manager David Cannon and employs five staff.

The shop sources all its meats from local farms.

It also produces a newsletter for customers.

It has also linked up with Huddersfield Giants rugby star Chris Nero, who helps market the shop.

Addy's was runner-up in the North West region, but first place was taken by Ilkley-based Lishman's Butchers.

The national winner was Metric's butchers, of Glossop.

Brindon Addy, owner of Addy's, said: "We did well to get to the final 14. It was a great day out at the Dorchester, it was just like the Oscar's. It was cracking."
