THE Royal British Legion has welcomed new cadets to its New Mill branch.

Army and Air Cadets were officially affiliated to the branch in a ceremony on Tuesday.

Around 100 cadets attended the event at the Cadet Centre at Huddersfield Road, Thongsbridge.

Each received a RBL badge for their uniforms.

Their affiliation means they can take part in RBL events and courses or take part in Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes and volunteer projects through the Legion.

RBL organisers hope the cadets and their instructors will also help with activities such as the Poppy Appeal in November.

They can also volunteer as caseworkers to assist ex-servicemen and women in need, or pay visits to ex-Forces personnel who need help or are isolated.

The RBL branch is always looking for more volunteers.
