CHERIE Blair's stepmother Steph Booth – a would-be Labour MP – is facing legal action over a bitter row concerning an unpaid bill for building work at her home.

Mrs Booth, who celebrated being selected as prospective Parliamentary candidate for Calder Valley only last week, asked 25-year-old Shaun Rudman to build a small porch extension to her home in Todmorden last August.

Builder Shaun claims he was unaware of any problems until he presented the bill. After negotiations failed, the matter is now due to be heard in June at Halifax County Court.

Shaun revealed how the couple paid £1,500 in cash upfront for materials and he set to work on building a utility room at their home on August 18.

Originally the work was to finish in two weeks for which he was to be paid £1,000, but bad weather slowed the project meaning it was not completed until September 24.

The workman charged them a further £850 for a variety of jobs he carried out during an extra three weeks he worked at the house.

But there was an unpleasant showdown when he turned up at their home with his final invoice in October.

The Booths are counterclaiming for £602 for “loss of trust, breach of promise, overcharge, stress and disappointment.’’
