PLANS to boost business could see an £100,000 injection of cash.

Next week Calderdale councillors will discuss ways to create new jobs and safeguard others.

The funding is expected to be on top of £300,000 already used for the borough’s Economic Fighting Fund to the Business Improvement Grant Initiative.

Clr Janet Battye, Council’s Leader, said supporting local businesses, particularly a time of recession, is vital.

She said: “The Business Improvement Grant has been remarkably successful and members of the Economic Task Force have recommended that a further £100,000 be allocated to the scheme.”

Grants have been available to help businesses grow or retain staff through improvements to existing premises or to help with new buildings.

Once all of the supported schemes have been completed, the result should be:

116 new jobs

629 jobs safeguarded

Five new businesses

Generation of a further £1.63 million investment from the private sector.

A report due to be presented to the Cabinet says the existing programme has been extremely successful, but the £300,000 has been used up and more money is now needed to support further projects.
