PLANS to make Calderdale cleaner and greener have been unveiled.

The new Safer, Cleaner, Greener service forges the parks, street cleaning, community safety, countryside and forestry staff to tackle the issues of crime, grime and anti-social behaviour.

More than 100 staff are part of the new initiative which is aimed at responding quickly to problems from street cleaning and dog fouling to parks maintenance and removing graffiti and fly tipping.

Councillors have also backed plans to upgrade sweeping equipment and recycling more green waste.

Clr Ian Cooper, chair of the safer and stronger communities scrutiny panel, said the new service would tackle issues that mattered most to people.
