CALDERDALE Council’s top official is moving to a new post.

Paul Sheehan will leave his job as chief executive of the council after 10 years.

He has been confirmed as the new chief executive of Walsall Council.

Mr Sheehan said: “It has been a privilege to work with so many talented and committed staff and with councillors who work so hard to support their communities.” He joined the council as a service director in 1990, becoming chief executive seven years later.

Mr Sheehan said: “I have enjoyed my time with Calderdale tremendously but it is time to move on to a new challenge.

“Much has been achieved by the council, but much remains to be done for local people. I am confident that Calderdale will continue to improve.”

Council leader Clr Ann McAllister paid tribute to him.

She said: “Feelings are inevitably mixed in situations like this. Whilst I am happy for Paul and wish him well in his new venture, I will be sorry to see him leave.

“Paul has helped move this council forward over the last 10 years. He has helped create a modern forward-looking council with clear ambitions for the future.

“The recruitment process for Paul’s successor will get under way shortly.”
