Calderdale voters have left the council in a situation of no overall control.

It was a case of “as you were” for the people in the corridors of power.

The 2016 elections saw tens of thousands go to the polls and their votes were counted this morning at the North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax.

Before the count, the state of the parties had seen Labour hold 24 of the 51 seats, the Conservatives with 21, the Lib Dems with 5 and Independents with 1.

After the 2015 elections the Conservatives ran the council as a minority administration but the situation changed halfway through the year.
