FIREFIGHTERS cut motorists from their cars in two separate Calderdale smashes just 10 minutes apart.

In the first incident at 2.37am on Saturday a man and a woman were trapped when their Fiat Punto tipped on its side on Rochdale Road at Greetland.

Firefighters from Elland found the car stuck between a garden wall and a parked car near the junction with Crosshills Mount.

The occupants, thought to be in their 20s, were cut out of the vehicle and taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Just 10 minutes later firefighters from Brighouse were called to a two-car smash on Rochdale Road at Pye Nest in Halifax.

Fire crews from Illingworth and Mytholmroyd also attended the collision between a Peugeot 405 and a Volkswagen Passat.

Both drivers, a male and a female, were trapped and had to be freed by firefighters but neither had to be taken to hospital.
