A GROUP for people with intolerance to gluten is to stage its first-ever food fair this weekend.

Calderdale and Huddersfield Ceoliac Group will hold the event from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday at St Philip’s Community Centre, Briarlyn Road, Birchencliffe.

Six Huddersfield area manufacturers will be on hand to sell gluten-free goodies including cakes, biscuits, pasta, pizzas, sausages, pies and quiches. There will also be mini Christmas hampers.

Group organiser Irvena Fisher said: “The group was formed about six years ago and now has about 600 members.

“Groups in other parts of the country have held food fairs which have proved very popular.

“We hold about five or six events every year, but we have never held a food fair before, so we are hoping it will be successful and become a regular event.”
