DRUG dealers and burglars have been targeted in a series of police raids this week.

Suspected serious organised criminals in Calderdale have been arrested in one of the area’s biggest pro-active arrest operations, dubbed Operation Irondale.

The arrests follow six months of investigation using police intelligence and information passed to police by concerned members of the public.

So far a significant quantity of drugs and cash and a large amount of counterfeit goods have been seized.

Items believed to have been stolen have also been recovered.

Fourteen of the suspects were arrested in one day of action – 10 for drugs offences and four were for public order offences.

Superintendent Stan Bates, head of Operations for Calderdale Division, said: “This is a major operation against people who have no consideration for the lives they are ruining through their drug dealing and criminal activity. The nature and scale of this operation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to targeting criminals in Calderdale who think they can get away with preying on law-abiding people. I hope this sends out a clear message to all criminals that we will not standby and allow people to live off the proceeds of their crimes.”

The week-long operation has involved around 100 officers from Calderdale District Police Division supported by West Yorkshire Police’s Crime Division targeting more than 40 people suspected of being involved in criminal activity.
