COUNCILLORS are considering whether to leave street lights on 24 hours a day.

Calderdale Cabinet members said a review was ongoing about street light provision.

And they promised to look at the cost and need of illuminating signs all day.

Shaun Loftus, a Calderdale resident, asked councillors: “The cost of lighting up council signs 24 hours a day is a waste of electricity.

“If you’re looking at street lights can you look at whether you need to light up signs too?”

Clr Barry Collins, Cabinet member for the economy and environment, said: “It’s a good suggestion.

“There is work being done to look at the arrangements of street lights and whether it’s appropriate to have them on all the time and we’ll include lighting signs as part of it.”
