NURSES at Calderdale Royal’s outpatients sported red T-shirts to raise money for charity and promote the benefits of a healthy heart.

The nurses, all from Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, have raised £360 for the British Heart Foundation and hope to improve on the figure.

Wear Red Day marks the end of the British Heart Foundation’s National Heart Month

Staff nurse Amy Emerson, who organised the activities, said: “The event is a great chance to raise some money and give patients information on the importance of looking after their heart and their health.

“There is a lot you can do to keep your heart healthy – whatever your age. Taking exercise, eating a healthy diet and being aware of dangers such as smoking, drinking, high blood pressure and stress.”

Around 900 patients in Huddersfield and Halifax are treated for heart attacks every year. Some 12 per cent of them were people aged under 50.
