NEW figures showing how high schools in Calderdale have fared in league tables have been released.

Brooksbank School at Elland was among the best performers for the authority in the key stage four tables released by the Department for Education yesterday.

Some 57% cent of students who took GCSE examinations during the summer achieved at least five grade A* to C passes including English and maths which is the Government benchmark for successful schools.

Others figures released include: Brighouse High School (52%); Hipperholme and Lightcliffe (54%), and Rastrick High School (51%).

Crossley Heath School, which is a selective grammar school which accepts pupils from the Huddersfield area had a 98% figure.

Overall, the number of five GCSE (or iGCSE or equivalent) passes at A* to C including English and mathematics increased again this year by 3.6% to 53.4%.
