HUNDREDS of young people and youth workers from across Calderdale are gathering at events this week to share their achievements as part of National Youth Work Week.

And Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for children and young people Clr Craig Whittaker says he is delighted that the work of young people and youth workers is being recognised.

The theme for Youth Work Week this year is "Resilient and resourceful", two key qualities that youth workers have always helped impart, and which young people need in abundance.

The National Youth Agency invited youth work organisations to use the theme to celebrate the ways in which they help young people deal with the difficulties life can place in their way and carry on to enjoy their lives and meet their potential.

An evening of music, dance, sports and arts has been planned for today to allow participants to show off skills they have acquired and talk about their experiences.

The All Our Own Work event, celebrating the achievements of young people in Calderdale, will take place at the Queen’s Road Neighbourhood Centre, Halifax, from 6.30 to 9.00pm.

Young people will be able to try out a healthy living gym at the event and a skate-boarding display has been promised, weather permitting.
