COUNCILLORS have been asked to consult adult learners in Calderdale after it was revealed their base will be sold off.

The council is reviewing its building stock and Horton House, used for adult learning, is among those to be “disposed” of.

Pete Keele, of the adult learning centre, in Horton Street, Halifax town centre, told Cabinet members: “There has been no consultation with students or staff at Horton House and no firm details have been proposed for adult learning.

“Can the leader meet with users?”

Clr Tim Swift, council leader, said: “The town centre office strategy report proposed to relocate a number of council services within the local property estate to ensure services are in the right location and cost effective.

“This council is facing massive financial pressures, we’ve identified savings of £40m since 2010 and need to find the equivalent sum over the next four years.”

Clr Swift added: “Any change won’t be until August 2013 or thereafter and we will consult in the spring and summer terms of 2013 and I’m happy to meet users as part of that process”.
