FLY-TIPPING is the "scourge of Yorkshire's countryside", say landowners.

They are calling for Government action to clean up tons of rubbish dumped illegally in England's beauty spots.

Farmers and landowners say they are spending thousands of pounds cleaning up dumped rubbish on their land.

A survey by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) said a third of landowners had a weekly problem with dumped goods.

Building rubble topped the list, with fridges, freezers, sofas and mattresses following on.

CLA Yorkshire director Dorothy Fairburn said the survey showed the need for a fuller investigation and some new solutions.

"Everyone who responded to the survey knew of a beauty spot ruined and all gave details of how fly-tipping had affected their property, in some cases on a daily basis," said Ms Fairburn.

In March, Kirklees Council environmental staff said they were considering putting spy cameras at fly-tipping blackspots in a bid to catch the culprits.

A newly-formed environmental enforcement team is monitoring the worst-hit areas.

They include Moll Springs and Hagg Wood, near Honley, and Harrison Lane at Meltham.

The Country Land and Business Association survey said tipped items included:

* A human body (which later transpired to be a murder victim)

* The interior of a chip shop, complete with deep fat fryer

* Half a caravan

* Three baths, all avocado

* An entire kitchen

* A shop window

* Dead swans

* A bag of dead rabbits.
