A SAFE sex campaign is being backed by Wakefield MP David Hinchliffe.

Mr Hinchliffe, whose constituency includes Denby Dale and Kirkburton is supporting National Condom Week, which runs until Sunday.

The event aims to help health care professionals and teachers educate young people about the dangers of unprotected sex.

Mr Hinchliffe, who is chairman of the Commons Health Select Committee said: "Sex features heavily in our media and young people are therefore influenced by it at an early age.

"It's vital they receive good sex education at an appropriate age, so they're able to make informed choices about their sexual health.

"National Condom Week highlights the importance of protecting yourself against sexually transmitted infections, as well as unplanned pregnancy."

DJ Sara Cox, actor Martin Clunes and So Solid Crew's MC Squami are among celebrities backing the event, which will include information leaflets and resource packs.
