A LOCAL heart support group is calling for new backing to ensure that heart patients remain the highest priority for the health service.
Brighouse-based CREW are calling on people to sign a petition demanding a new and improved heart plan for people who have been affected by the disease.
The disease affects 2.2 million people in England – more than any other country.
The national service framework for Coronary heart Disease in England was introduced by the Government in 1999 and is due to expire this year with no current replacement.
CREW spokesman John Tudor said: “You can’t fight the UK’s biggest killer without a plan of action.
“We need a new heart plan otherwise the progress that has been made in recent years could simply disappear.”
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is leading the fight against the heart and circulatory disease by playing a key role in education, to inform both the public and the health professionals.
For more information or to sign the petition go to www.newheartplan.org.uk or in any local BHF charity shop.
