A CLUBBER launched an attack on a staff member when he was asked to pick up toilet roll.

Ryan Dobbs was headbutted and then repeatedly punched in the face after he made the request to Michael Pell.

The assault took place at the Camel Club in Huddersfield town centre at about 2.30am on October 16.

The town’s magistrates were told that student Mr Dobbs works at the nightclub but that evening was off duty and enjoying drinks with his girlfriend.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, told the bench that Mr Dobbs was waiting for his girlfriend outside the ladies’ toilets when he noticed toilet roll across the floor.

As staff, he felt compelled to tidy it up, alerting the women that he was about to come in.

When he returned outside he saw Pell, of Moor Hill Road, Salendine Nook, who then went into the toilets despite Mr Dobbs’ requests not to do so.

As he came out, the staff member saw Pell throw some toilet roll onto the floor and he asked him to pick it up.

Mrs Fowler said: “Mr Pell then replied ‘who the f*** are you?’, and the complainant told him it was not nice for staff to pick up items off the floor.”

The prosecutor said that at that point Pell, 23, became aggressive.

“He pushed Mr Dobbs backwards, he (the complainant) put his hands up and said he didn’t want a fight.

“The male then lunged towards him and headbutted him in the face.

“He then punched him a few times to the face and body.”

Mr Dobbs was later treated in hospital for a cuts to his face and swelling.

When questioned by police, builder Pell admitted the assault and said he had been drunk.

Sonia Kidd, defending, said: “He went into the toilets to blow his nose and when he disposed of it, missed the bin.

“The complainant was not in a uniform, so in his mind not a member of staff, and appeared to be dictating to the defendant.”

Magistrates agreed to adjourn the case in order for the probation to prepare a pre-sentence report.

Pell will next appear before the court on November 18.
