Jeff Mellor needs a hand naming these players from the start of the 1960s.

The teams played for Paddock County Junior School in the first two seasons of the decade.

Jeff says: “In the 1960/1 picture I’m the one on the far right bottom row and I think Dave Pitcher is next but one to the left.

“In the 1961/2 picture one of the middle two back row could be Mitchell, the goalkeeper could be Fairbank with me next to him, then Dave Pitcher, Gary Driscol and Alan Turner. Bottom row is Chris Knott second from the left and I think far right is Pearson. That’s about as much as I can remember.”

Jeff went on to Royds Hall School and then into the world of work for aluminium window and door manufacturer Heywood Helliwell based at Bay Hall Works in Birkby. When the company closed Mitre took over the building.

Jeff started playing for the Heywood football team in 1968 and recalls playing alongside Tony Galvin who went on to play for Tottenham Hotspur. Tony used to play when he was home in Huddersfield from Hull University.

The Heywood team became Heywood Sports and is now Heywood Irish Centre, playing in the Huddersfield and District League. Jeff is the secretary and treasurer.

Jeff also worked at J T Ellis furniture makers in Aspley for many years.

Now 64 and retired, he lives in Dalton with wife Susan. The couple have two sons, Paul and David, and an 18-month-old granddaughter Katherine.
