PATIENTS turned models last night to stage an emotional fashion show.

Thirty-five breast cancer patients were cheered on by an audience of 400 family and friends as they strutted down a catwalk at Cedar Court Hotel.

The women – all patients at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust – were taking part in the fifth annual fashion show organised by the award-winning breast cancer nursing team.

Styled to perfection, the models all aged between 34 and 79 put into practice professional catwalk tips as they modelled everything from evening wear to swimsuits.

This year’s show even featured a guest appearance by the Examiner’s own Hilarie Stelfox.

The model participants are all at various stages of their cancer treatment.

And organiser Veronica Allinson, a specialist nurse, said there wasn’t a dry eye in the packed house.

She said: “The models were a bit nervous but they were all absolutely brilliant and looked like professionals up there.

“It’s always a very intimate, moving affair for the patients and their friends and family and for the bridal scene particularly there were lots of tears.

“One lady who came back after helping last year said it gave her such a high and so much confidence back and that’s what it’s all about – it’s about giving them the confidence to face the world again.”
